For more than 15 years Dancing with the Abilene Stars has raised critical funds to support residential care and therapeutic programs for children and families. Over the years more than 150 community leaders have been paired with a professional dancer and danced their hearts out – with the single goal of raising funds to support kids.
Hendrick Home for Children exists to provide quality, residential, trauma-informed care and therapeutic services in a loving, Christian environment to three vulnerable populations. Dancing with the Abilene Stars supports three core programs at Hendrick Home:
- Basic Care provides care in a family setting for children that cannot live with their guardians for various reasons. Hendrick Home provides a safe, stable, and nurturing environment designed to facilitate a healthy and normative childhood.
- After Care originated from the idea that children should not age out of care or their family home. The After Care program continues the care of youth that graduate from Basic Care and offers dormitory style housing, tuition, and ongoing financial, emotional, and relational support as young adults transition into independent living, stepping into a bright future.
- Family Care is the largest program at Hendrick Home and provides safe, stable, and secure housing for single parents and their children. With the goal of self-sufficiency, each family works toward stability and financial independence while learning valuable parenting, financial, and life skills uniquely designed to launch each family into a stable and independent future. Family Care is really a children’s program; the children just get to bring their parents with them!
