Who We Are

A Mission To Help

Hendrick Home for Children in Abilene, Texas offers services for children and single-parent families who need a jump start in their lives. Established in 1939 by Tom and Ida Hendrick with a mission to help children and families, their vision has changed the trajectory of thousands of lives.

Continued Vision

Carrying on the Hendrick’s vision for more than eighty-five years, today Hendrick Home is a trauma informed community grounded in Christian principles that provides healing and growth through healthy relationships.

Hendrick Home serves children and families through three core programs

Basic Care

Basic Care provides care in a family setting for children that cannot live with their guardians for various reasons. Hendrick Home provides a safe, stable, and nurturing environment designed to facilitate a healthy and normative childhood.

After Care

After Care originated from the idea that children should not age out of care or their family home. The After Care program continues the care of youth that graduate from Basic Care.

Family Care

Family Care provides safe, stable, and secure housing for single parents and their children. With the goal of self-sufficiency, each family works toward stability and financial independence while learning valuable parenting, financial, and life skills uniquely designed to launch each family into a stable and independent future.

Wraparound Care

Every resident of Hendrick Home is offered wraparound care including counseling, therapeutic recreation, skills building, equine therapy, and educational support. Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining room with a time-honored tradition of starting the day together as one large family. Birthdays and holidays are celebrated, major milestones are accomplished, and campus-wide family dinners take place monthly. Longstanding traditions are passed down including the infamous bundt cakes that are still made every Christmas from the original recipe dating back decades.

Private Funding

As a privately funded organization, Hendrick Home is not dependent on state or federal funding, allowing for the integration of spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual growth in each program. Hendrick Home is a longstanding pillar in the Abilene community that continues the legacy of Tom and Ida Hendrick – changing the trajectory of children and families by creating a safe place for them to learn and thrive.
